The National Institute of Design, Assam (NID Assam), established under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is one of the autonomous institutes of national importance under the NID Act 2014. As part of the NID network, NID Assam has been envisioned to promote design education, research, and practice in the North-East region while addressing global standards of creativity and innovation.

The Placement Cell at NID Assam acts as the link between our graduating students and the professional world of design, craft, and industry. It plays a key role in facilitating internships, projects, and final placements while nurturing relationships with organizations from diverse sectors.

Academic Departments

NID Assam offers its flagship Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme in the following disciplines:

• Communication Design – including Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, and Interaction Design.
• Industrial Design – focusing on Product Design, Furniture Design, and Mobility.
• Textile & Apparel Design – blending traditional craft practices with modern fashion and textile innovation.

Students undergo a rigorous curriculum that balances hands-on studio learning, craft cluster engagement, industry projects, and research. This multidisciplinary training ensures they are equipped with skills, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity to meet industry expectations.

Objectives of the Placement Cell

1. To create a structured platform for students to secure internships and placement opportunities across industries.
2. To connect with national and international recruiters including design studios, corporate houses, fashion and lifestyle brands, technology startups, craft enterprises, NGOs, and development organizations.
3. To prepare students for professional success through career workshops, portfolio guidance, resume-building sessions, and interview preparation.
4. To encourage diverse career pathways – from entrepreneurship, independent consultancy, and social innovation to corporate design and research roles.
