KMC, NID Assam celebrated National Librarian’s Day on 12 August 2026 to commemorate the 134 th birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The programme was organised to acknowledge the significance of libraries and librarians in facilitating knowledge, learning, research and intellectual development.
The celebration began with a floral tribute to Dr. Ranganathan and a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Dr. Tonmay Sabhapandit, Head Librarian, NID Assam, delivered the welcome address. The programme was further enriched by the address of the Registrar, NID Assam, Ms. Dulumoni Kalita, who highlighted the vital role of libraries in nurturing and supporting the academic, research, and creative ecosystem of the Institute. Dr. Dinamani Thakuria, Deputy Registrar, and Mr. CMA Rakesh Moheswary, Controller of Finance & Accounts, addressed the gathering and appreciated the contributions and user-centric services of KMC. On this Occasion, KMC, NID Assam inaugurated its Image Library, marking an important step towards strengthening and diversifying the library’s information resources. The initiative is expected to provide valuable visual resources to support the academic, research and creative requirements of the Institute community.
The Best KMC User Awards 2025–26 was also presented during the programme to recognise and appreciate active and exemplary use of library resources and services. Mr. Anmol Xaxa received the award under the Employee Category, while Ms. Pavithra R. Raj was awarded under the Student Category.
The programme also witnessed the release of “Bibliophile’s Bulletin” (Vol. 2, Issue 2), the KMC Half-Yearly Newsletter. As part of the celebration, a sapling plantation activity was also undertaken on the occasion. The initiative symbolised the commitment towards sustainability and the nurturing of both knowledge and the environment. The celebration concluded with a positive and inspiring note, highlighting the vital role of KMC, NID Assam in supporting teaching, learning, research, creativity and knowledge dissemination.
