As the Faculty and Discipline Coordinator of the Textile and Apparel Design Department at NID Assam, I’ve always believed in fostering creativity and innovation among our students. One of the most exciting initiative that stemmed from this vision is the “Runway Revolution” fashion show. This annual showcase isn’t just about displaying garments; it’s a celebration of hard work, collaboration, and the vibrant talent that thrives within our institution.
At its core, Runway Revolution is a culmination of ideas sparked during our fourth- semester course, “Garment Construction.” Here, students look into the intricacies of design, from conceptualization to creation. They explore trends, develop mood boards, and craft detailed briefs, all while sharpen or refine their skills in garment construction. Working in groups, they brainstormed, received feedback, and refined their designs from time to time.
The journey from concept to catwalk is a through process. It begins with sketches and fabric swatches, progresses through pattern making and sewing in our workshops, and culminates in the fitting sessions where every stitch and seam is scrutinized. Our students not only learn the technical aspects of fashion but also absorb the essence of teamwork and perseverance.
What sets Runway Revolution apart is its inclusivity. While it showcases the best of our Textile and Apparel Design students, it also features collaborations with other departments. Students from Industrial and communication design disciplines contribute their skills in photography, videography, and walking the ramp for the TAD students, adding depth and dimension to the show. It truly becomes a campus-wide celebration of creativity and collaboration.
The excitement builds as the garments are checked thoroughly if fitted to models, ensuring they reflect the designers’ vision flawlessly. Each piece tells a story of dedication, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. It’s evidence to the rigorous training and mentorship provided by us, who guide and inspire students every step of the way.
Ultimately, Runway Revolution isn’t just a fashion show; it’s a platform where dreams take shape and creativity knows no bounds. It exemplifies the spirit of innovation that defines our department and sets the stage for future generations of fashion leaders.
